At WWDC 2022 earlier this week, Apple previewed to everyone what they call the “next generation of CarPlay.” Apple is looking to replace the entire user interface experience in cars with multiple screens, as currently CarPlay only takes over one section of the infotainment experience. As you can see from the header image, Apple has designed the gauges, climate control, trip information and more.

Apple has said that the next generation of CarPlay would integrate deeply into the hardware in the car, to grab data to display a digital speedometer, fuel level and temperature information direct inside CarPlay.

Apple has said the whole experience will be customisable, with modern and traditional gauge styles as well as widgets and more. Apple says this new CarPlay will be fully announced later in 2023 with a handful of car companies on board already, including Ford, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti, Honda, Acura, Jaguar, Land Rover, Audi, Nissan, Volvo and Porsche.
