As of yesterday, BMW has announced a new recall for some iX and i4 vehicles, after a new investigation was conducted after two cars caught fire. This recall affects a small amount of customers in the US with 83 vehicles affected across both models.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has warned owners of the affected models to not drive, charge or park the cars inside until the recall has been completed.

Affected models include iX xDrive 50, iX M60, i4 eDrive40 and i4 M50.

The incident is due to a defect with some Samsung SDI batteries in both the 2022 i4 and the iX. For the iX, affected models are produced between 2nd December 2021 and 30th June 2022 and for the i4, between 22nd November 2021 and 13th June 2022.

BMW has already notified its dealers in the US of this issue and the company will be replacing the affected batteries free of charge. Customers should received a written letter warning them of the issue by 19th September 2022.
